~Practice bow exercises!
Use the Right Hand for Bow exercises. Spider push-ups, Pencil Pick-ups (pencil pick-ups can be practiced two ways, both with
and without the pencil), and Rabbit Face. No cheating! Use only fingers to do the exercises; no wrist, forearm, or full arm.
For Rabbit Face, have the middle fingers over the thumbnail, curved fingers to make a circle shape.
~Practice
holding the violin! Remember to start in rest position, with feet together and violin on the right side (strings facing
out). Then, use your left hand to grip the neck of the violin and bring the violin up onto your left shoulder.
Remember to use the sponge to make the violin hold more comfortable.
~Practice holding the bow! Remember
to curve both the pinkie and thumb. The middle fingers cover the eye of the frog.
~Practice playing
the open strings! Remember the string names GDAE. Use the bow tapes to guide you, and try to play close to the
bridge. Many of you have learned the "DAD" song this week as well.
~Make sure to loosen
the bow when you put it away, and also to take the sponge off your violin.
