Violin Basics

Here are some things to periodically check in your playing.

~practice your scales, vibrato, and bow exercises regularly

BOW
~make sure your bowhand pinkie and thumb are curved
~check that you are playing on the Kreisler Highway to get your best sound
~keep your bow straight, use a mirror and your bridge to help you with this

VIOLIN
~check your posture; your violin should be parallel to the floor (not too low or too high)
~make sure that your left wrist has not collasped inwards (your palm should not
be too close to your violin)
~your left thumb should not be curved; it should be relatively straight and relaxed (not
  pressing or gripping the violin)

PITCH
~listen carefully to make sure you are in tune; especially be careful with high and low
   two's for younger students
~listen to recordings of the pieces you are working on
