I have taught private violin lessons for the over twelve years. While teaching in the Chicago suburbs, I had a studio
of twenty-five students, ranging in age from seven to eighteen. My students included high-school beginners as well as more
experienced people. Many of my students received top ratings in the district's Solo/Ensemble festival, and one of my
students recently won first prize in the Brown County Scholarship competition in her age division. My formal
pedagogical training comes from courses at UW-Madison. I have a strong Suzuki background and therefore encourage parental
involvement with all my students. I often have filled in for my former violin teacher in Milwaukee. However, I have learned
the most about teaching through my own studio, dealing with the various gifts and interests of each student. When
I teach students who have not taken private lessons before, I focus on the fundamental aspects of their playing. Once students
are able to hold the bow and violin with correct posture, I see a dramatic improvement in their sound, intonation, and confidence.
I use the Suzuki Method Books for solo repertoire, supplemented by scales, rhythm exercises, and orchestra music.
